A pivotal role in designing and implementing a EGP 10 million integrated development program launched by the Chamber of Engineering Industries in cooperation with the Industrial Modernization Center to upgrade 600 SMEs administratively, technically, and export-wise.
Dr. Shaimaa Oleba, Board Member of the Chamber of Engineering Industries at the Federation of Egyptian Industries and Member of the Small Industries Committee, revealed details of an integrated development program launched by the Chamber to support small and medium-sized enterprises in the engineering industries sector, in cooperation with the Industrial Modernization Center, with allocated funding of EGP 10 million.
Dr. Oleba’s role in the program was both pivotal and hands-on across the preparation, design, and implementation phases. She actively contributed to developing the program’s strategic vision, structuring its components, and preparing the related studies and implementation plans, reflecting practical involvement based on field experience in SME development and engineering industries.
The program aims to develop and qualify 600 companies from the Chamber’s members through two main tracks. The first track targets 300 companies with training and development in modern management, marketing, sales, operations, accounting, and administrative and technical skills. The second track focuses on qualifying another 300 companies for export and international market access over three years, with efforts to accelerate implementation within one and a half years.
Dr. Oleba explained that the program aims to move SMEs from early-stage operations to higher levels of professionalism and competitiveness, especially as SMEs represent more than 90% of the Chamber of Engineering Industries’ membership, amounting to nearly 12,000 companies with total investments estimated at around EGP 24 billion.
The program is based on a scientific and practical methodology to classify companies according to institutional maturity levels, identify their real development needs, and provide specialized training and development programs for business owners, teams, and products until companies become more competitive and export-ready.
Oleba emphasized that the program is not limited to theoretical training. It aims to create real transformation in company performance through follow-up and impact measurement, supporting a stronger industrial base capable of growth, supply-chain participation, quality improvement, and export expansion to African, Arab, and European markets.
