Why Façade Engineering?

A building’s skin can define its value, performance and architectural expression.

Façades and building envelopes – which form the outer skins of buildings – project image and creative intent. Increasingly, they are also understood as important environmental moderators and key influencers in project risk and commercial success.

A thoughtfully designed skin can make a new building work more effectively for its owners, occupants and environment. It can also transform the performance of an existing building

Façade cladding systems have very large impacts on all aspects of any building performance.  They directly influence peak heating and cooling loads, and indirectly influence lighting loads when day-lighting is considered. 

Because they are prominent architectural and design elements and because they influence occupant preference, satisfaction and comfort, the design optimization challenge is more complex than with many other building systems

Because they are prominent architectural and design elements and because they influence occupant preference, satisfaction and comfort, the design optimization challenge is more complex than with many other building systems.

Objectives

This diploma provides an integral combination of the theoretical and practical knowledge basis for a complete and sound understanding of all disciplines attributing to the operational performance of façades. It examines the complex inter-relationships between those different aspects throughout a consideration of the existing constructions. Knowledge of materials, methods of manufacturing and installation are an essential element in the successful design of façades, and are given a conspicuous place in the diploma which will be expanded though varies factories and site visits.

Main Objective:

The main objective of the Training is to provide graduates with a broad understanding and knowledge of facade engineering. This is to ensure that they will have the skill, knowledge and understanding to design, manufacture and construct building facades and cladding. The Training is intended to broaden graduates from their original disciplines to have an understanding of all aspects of the building envelope.

Innovations and emerging issues

To develop and bring to market, innovative façade technologies, more efficient glazing, shading systems, day-lighting systems, and integrated controls with significant potential for increased energy efficiency in buildings beyond applicable standards.

To study wide variety of innovative façade technologies on the market or emerging into the market that could deliver potentially significant energy savings.

 

Structural engineering and integrity

To provide a sound structural engineering knowledge relevant to façade engineering.

To develop an understanding of how to enclose and seal buildings.

To introduce concepts of performance specification.

 

Building physics

To give a holistic view of the design of buildings.

To develop an understanding of comfort in buildings.

To provide a knowledge of the energy efficiency in buildings Materials and design.

To develop concepts of durability and life cycle costs.

To give knowledge of facade construction and manufacture and of façade materials.

 

Management

To specify the role of the different participants in the envelope design and construction.

To develop concepts of quality within the design and supply process.

To provide knowledge of the industry structure and culture.

 

Research methods

To give an understanding of information sources.

To develop an understanding of critical review.

To develop an ability to write scientific and technical reports

This Diploma in Façade Engineering is concerned with all aspects of lightweight or factory-produced cladding and roofing systems.  It covers all aspects of Façade engineering including:

  •   Design§  Construction§  Specification

  •   Building physics§  Structures§  Integrity

  •   Materials§  Manufacture§  Procurement

Upon completion of the diploma, participants should be able to:

  • Acquire essential knowledge of materials engineering and design principles of façade, and practical skills necessary for performance to industry standards;

  • Implement the principles and concepts of contract management, such as cost management and customer service, that are applicable to façade engineering;

  • Apply essential knowledge about the standards and codes of practice that are relevant to façade engineering;

  • Build up practical skills through site and factories visits; and

  • Demonstrate proper working attitude at supervisory level in the façade engineering industry.

Diploma Features

Upon completion of the Diploma, participants will:

  • Grant the first Professional Diploma in Façade engineering in EGYPT;

  • Hand on experience as well as essential knowledge about Façade engineering;

  • Visit prestigious project sites and factories to provide field experience on Façade engineering.

 

Diploma Duration

2 Month 

Lectures, seminars, discussions and Sites, Factories visits. 

Medium of Instruction

Lectures will be conducted in Arabic supplemented with English terminology as appropriate.

Course materials and assessment are in English.

Assessment

Attendees  are required to have an overall pass in each course. The passing mark is 60%.

 

Award

A “Professional Diploma in Façade Engineering” will be jointly issued by INFINITY Solutions and IAO "California"  to those students who have successfully completed core units and two optional units.

 

Exemption Policy

The maximum exemption to be granted is 2 courses
